ABOUT

HI, I'M KAIGAN CARRIE.

Writer • Researcher • Podcaster

My PhD examines how the coping mechanisms prison officers use to manage the intensity of their job influence their relationships, wellbeing, and everyday life.

Alongside my research, I create space for people to share experiences often hidden from public view. On my podcast, Evolving Prisons, I’ve interviewed over 100 people connected to the prison system, including officers, doctors, psychiatrists, and people who have lived in prison. I’ve also interviewed frontline professionals such as police officers, paramedics, and firefighters, exploring the psychological toll of their work.

Through writing and conversation, I explore how prison officers and other frontline professionals cope with the pressures of their work and the toll it takes on their lives. I have appeared on national news and written for outlets such as The Conversation, commenting on prison issues.
